The Process of Video Production

We all know that videos can come in many different sizes and shapes, and for many videos, there are all sorts of moving parts involved that can leave the production process itself to chance.

Generally defined, video production involves more than just hitting the record button on a camera. In fact, there are three different phases that are involved:

*Pre-Production

*Production

*Post-Production

Pre-Production involves all of the different planning and coordination with a video; Production involves capturing all of the different elements that will be included in the final product; Post-Production involves editing every element together and combining them in order to create the final video itself.

The video production process itself will actually vary depending on the following factors:

*Style

*Content

*Timeline

*Effort

*Budget

Pre-Production, as previously noted, is the first step involved with creating a video and involves both preparation and establishing groundwork. This specific phase includes the following:

*Strategy/goals

*Scope/budget

*Selecting the story

*Timeline of the project

*Creating the script

*Characters/talent

*Equipment needs/production team

*Scouting for a location

Typically, a series of meetings will be required in order to help with properly identifying all of these elements. Some of the most basic factors to help get everything started will include the following:

*Fact finding

*Pre-Production meeting

*Optional site visit

*Shoot preparation

The next step is the Production phase, which involves capturing all of the necessary footage for the video itself. Essentially, this is where the story will be brought to life. In the event that you have specific ideas, visuals, or visions that you wish to have included in the video, it's important that you clearly communicate this to the producer before the production phase concludes.

This specific phase includes the following:

*Video equipment/sound/lighting setup

*Interviews

*Voice recordings (if they are required)

*B-roll capturing

The final phase of the process is Post-Production, which involves the video production team taking the time to plan, organize, and editing the video. During this phase, the producer will also review the footage and transcribe any and all interviews that have been conducted. From there, they will put the story together and allow the editor to do all of their necessary work.

This phase includes the following:

*Interview logging

*Final story production

*Selecting music

*Editing video

*Approvals/reviews

*Final delivery

When the final draft of the video that you've put together has been created, both your project point person and key stakeholders will step back in to take part in the following:

*Initial revisions and approval

*Final delivery

Additionally, the reasons why the video production process itself is important includes the following:

*Dependability

*Fewer amounts of revisions

*More accurate pricing

*More predictable timeline
